Tracking blood bags in real time

Background

The client is a blood bank in Europe that stores thousands of blood bags. The collection, storage, transportation and tracking of blood bags involve multiple steps and require manual data entry. Manual operations and lack of real-time visibility can lead to human errors and poor quality control of blood bags. In order to find the right blood bag, clinicians must check the blood type, expiration date and blood test details one by one. This is a difficult and time-consuming task. When doing inventory counts, clinicians need to write down all the information first and then enter it into a fixed computer. This method is slow and the latest inventory status cannot be updated in real time. Delays in blood transfer may endanger patients.

Solution

Each qualified blood bag is affixed with a unique barcode and RFID tag containing corresponding identifiable information such as blood type, exact storage location, collection date and expiration date. From the donor to the final recipient, each blood bag movement has to use a V8 handheld terminal to scan the barcode or RFID tag. All data can be transmitted to the back-end system in real time via a wireless network so that hospital administrators can view blood inventory in real time.

Effect

1. Automatic data collection greatly reduces workload, improves work efficiency, and avoids human errors.

2. Querying and finding blood bags becomes very simple and quick.

3. The inventory of blood bags becomes more efficient. If there is any blood bag that is about to expire, the handheld terminal will issue a warning to ensure that every drop of blood is fully utilized.
